The Rebels are the band of brothers that joined together to overthrow the evil Empire that for a long time held the galaxy in its clutches. The Rebels first appear in Star Wars Episode IV, in which we watch Luke Skywalker and a few other X and Y-Wing pilots fly their crafts in an attempt to annihilate the Empire's Death Star, a huge "planet" the Empire manufactured with the capacity to destroy planets. The Rebels appear again in Star Wars episode V where the Empire re-manufactures a new Death Star. In this movie Han Solo is encased in carbonite, and Luke confronts his father in a fateful duel. Luke's hand is sliced off of his arm and plunges down to the bottom of Cloud City were he is rescued by other Rebels. The Rebels again appear in Star Wars Episode VI. In this episode, the Empire has re-created the Death Star and built it a shield generator, stationed on the forest planet Endor. The Rebels land on Endor where they discover an alien species of furry teddy bear-like creatures called Ewoks which, after a few complications, ally with them and help them defeat the Empire. Also in this movie Lando Calrissian, Admiral Ackbar and many other Rebels venture to the second Death Star in an attempt to destroy it. Luke also has gone to the Death Star to try to turn his father (Darth Vader) back to the Light Side. Luke confronts his father in another duel utilizing his new prosthetic hand. Luke overcomes Vader and chops off his hand. The smoking parts on the ground reveal that Vader himself has a prosthetic hand, just as Luke does. The Emperor, seeing that Vader was defeated, begins to blast Luke with Force Lightning. Vader, hearing Luke's cries for help, has a change of heart and comes to save Luke. Vader picks the Emperor up and tosses him over the railing, to fall to his death in a reactor shaft. Luke commands an Imperial craft and flies Vader, who was wounded greatly by the Emperor's Force Lightning (mainly due to the fact that Vader is largely cybernetic and it likely shorted his systems) and is dying. Meanwhile, the Rebels destroy the shield generator and the second Death Star.

The Rebel faction was first introduced in Star Wars Series 2 with Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and Princess Leia. Since then it has been expanded to contain many more figures, such as Admiral Ackbar.
